History
Heiwa Martial Arts was founded by Shihan Alan Burke in 1997. He currently ranks at 8th Dan in Karate which is the highest Dan in Ireland.
Alan set up Heiwa Martial Arts club in Inner city Dublin as part of a community development programme in 1996-1997. The club started very small with only 6 paying members. Within 2 years, the club had grown to 25 members.
Members were attracted to the club by word of mouth, mainly it was friends or family members of existing club members that joined.
By the end of 2018, Heiwa boasted little more than 120 members in total with 2 sister clubs also established.
The sister clubs were set up by students of Shihan Alan Burke who achieved Black belts under Alan’s training. When a student reaches black belt, they are encouraged to train others and start their own classes.
